What Is Assisted Living?
Assisted living is a type of residential facility that offers assistance with daily activities for individuals who can get around independently. These communities provide a homelike environment where residents receive supportive care from staff 24 hours a day. Typically, residents have private or shared rooms and bathrooms, a shared dining room, and a shared living room.
Assisted living communities are licensed as Community Based Residential Facilities (CBRFs). At the very least, room furnishings generally include a bed (including mattress, box spring, and headboard) and a nightstand/dresser.
What Services Does Assisted Living Provide?
Assisted living offers a wide range of services to support residents in their daily lives, including, but not limited to:
- Assistance with medication management
- Help with using the bathroom, dressing, grooming, and bathing
- Housekeeping and laundry services
- Meal preparation and dining assistance
- Transportation arrangements for medical appointments and outings
- Social and recreational activities
Communities offer different levels of care and services. Before someone moves in, the assisted living assesses them to make a personalized care plan. This helps the staff understand the resident’s needs and provide customized support.
